I just watched the movie Batman Begins. This time, the movie captures the essence of Batman in the comics. Batman is a grim figure. He fights crime with a vengeance. How did Bruce Wayne become the Batman?

Comic book lovers know that when the little boy Bruce Wayne saw a gun man shoot down his mom and dad right in a robbery gone wrong, Bruce wanted to avenge his parent's death by fighting crime. His life from then on was one of discipline where he trained his mind and body. He studied criminology and other disciplines necessary for his future crime fighting role. He learnt every martial art and fighting skill known to man to train his body to become a powerful fighting machine. The movie traces the time from the shooting, his training with Ras Al Ghul and how he got the bat cave, the bat mobile and other crime fighting equipment.
Some changes were made though. The comic book Bruce Wayne would never take a life. He could be violent, grim, but never a murderer. In DC's comic book history, before the crisis of the infinite earths when DC history was reset, Batman found the thug who killed his parents. He confronted the terrified thug and was disgusted to see that the criminal he was terrified of (his phobia was of that thug and not of bats) was even more terrified of him. The thug confessed to his criminal friends that Batman exists because he killed Batman's parents when he was a little boy. The angry criminals blamed him for the woes Batman had caused them and killed him in their rage, before they even had the sense to find out who Batman really was.

Batman Begins movie tells Batman's origin differently though. Still, engrossing for a fan of Batman. Sure, lots of critics say that Bruce Wayne should be locked up in an asylum and not allowed to go around in a Batsuit, but in real life, anyone who runs around in a skin tight superhero costume would be locked up anyway. This is about fantasty.
Bruce Wayne is something like James Bond behind the mask, except that he is a billionaire who does not work for anyone, and has a car that survives countless car chases.
Bruce is a billionaire playboy. A chick magnet. Batman is a superhero. Bruce owns a huge enterprise that happens to develop the latest, coolest, military gadgets and equipment, so he can help himself to the gadgets and equipment that others can only dream about.
That makes Batman Begins a fantasy movie for the guys.
